Located three miles south of Versailles on McCoun's Ferry Road.
Built between 1812-1816 by John and Elizabeth Watkins, step-father and mother of Henry Clay upon a 1000 acre tract on Griers Creek. After his mother's death Henry Clay purchased a one- third interest and later sold it to his step-father.
House is located on Moss Hill Farm and is unoccupied and in deteriorating condition.
Too bad no one is living there and/or keeping it up. Such a neat house.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to talk to the current owner of this house. Do you know who that is? Do you have a GPS location for the house?
ReplyDeleteI do not know the present owners name but there are Mexican workers living and working on the farm. The Woodford Co. PVA could probably tell you.
ReplyDeleteSteve, I have come a cross a book that apparently was given to a J.W. Hammond from William A. Wade, Moss House, Versailles Ky. The book dates back to 1904, but there are notes on the margins that date to the 1940's. I was searching for info about William A. Wade and found that he was a member of the American Saddle Horse Breeders in the 1920's. Would be familiar with this name? Thanks Ken M
